HDR, INC. has conducted detailed investigations quantifying the existence and densities of invasive nonnative species at the Little Rock Air Force Base (LRAFB).  From these investigations, target areas have been identified so that management and control of the invasive species can be strategically implemented.

Equilibrium has managed and controlled invasive species at LRAFB for two years. We have implemented control methodologies and have focused on the management of fifteen target species; Bradford Pear, Chinese Lespedeza, Chinese tallow tree, Cogan Grass, common privet, Henbit, Japanese honeysuckle, Johnsongrass, Kudzu, Mimosa, Nandina, Pepper Vine, Tall Fescue, Vinca and Wisteria.

At the LRAFB, mechanical and chemical treatments were implemented.  Mechanical treatments included mulching and cut-treat applications of invasive species.  Chemical treatment methods mostly consisted of foliage application of herbicides to invasive species. Equilibrium implemented these control methodologies within targeted areas at the LRAFB.

In the targeted areas, there is a set goal of achieving a high mortality rate for the targeted species (approximately 90 to 95 percent). To accomplish this goal, it is known that multiple treatments over an extended period of time may be necessary.
